FAQ

Real questions from people running a Skool community

From how to create a community to what churn is acceptable or how to cancel without losing your data. Each answer links to the full guide when there is more to say.

Getting started with Skool

How do I create a Skool community step by step?

Create your account at skool.com, hit "Create a group", pick a name and URL (that becomes your public address), decide free or paid, and publish an about section with a concrete promise. Before inviting anyone, set up at least one classroom module, three welcome posts and the rules. An empty community converts badly.

What exactly is Skool and who is it for?

Skool combines community, courses and a calendar in one platform, with points-based gamification. It fits well if you sell access to a community with training; it fits worse if you need funnels, advanced analytics or native automations.

What Skool is and what it doesn't do

How much does Skool cost per month?

Skool charges a single price per group, plus payment-processing fees on what you charge your members. What usually breaks the maths isn't the subscription: it's the real cost per active member once retention drops.

Is there a Skool mobile app?

Yes, there are iOS and Android apps for members, but advanced management happens in the desktop browser. Analysis and moderation tools, PowerUpSkool included, run on desktop Chrome.

Growing and retaining

How do I know which members are about to leave?

By looking at days without activity, drops in comments and sign-up cohort. Skool doesn't give you that cross-section; you have to rebuild it. PowerUpSkool computes it from what is already visible in your community and leaves you a risk list with a suggested action.

Skool retention: what to watch

What retention is normal in a paid community?

It depends on price and niche, but 8-12% monthly churn is common in monthly paid communities, and above 15% usually signals an onboarding problem, not a content problem.

How do I find threads that went unanswered?

By hand you have to walk every category and count comments one by one. With the extension you enable feed highlighting and threads with zero comments get marked in the colour you choose, on every page you open.

How to spot unanswered threads

Which messages work to reactivate an inactive member?

Short, personal ones with a single concrete action. No "we miss you": reference the last thing that person did and propose the smallest possible next step.

Which metrics should I review every week?

Active members over total, unanswered threads, weekly sign-ups and cancellations, and activity per cohort. Four numbers read properly beat a whole dashboard.

Metrics that matter

Monetising and comparing

How much should I charge for my community?

Start from the outcome you deliver and the cost of the alternative, not from what others charge. A low price with high churn is a worse business than a mid price with real support.

How to price your community

Is Skool legit? Is it worth it?

It's an established platform with its own payments; the real debate isn't reliability but whether its simplicity serves you or limits you once you pass a few hundred members.

What alternatives are there to Skool?

Circle, Kajabi, Mighty Networks, Discord and Patreon cover different pieces: community, course, membership or chat. Before migrating, check whether what you lack is a platform or a management layer.

How do I cancel my Skool subscription?

From your account's billing settings, before the renewal date. If you run a paid group, warn your members and export your data first: once it closes you lose access to the member list.

Cancelling Skool without losing data

PowerUpSkool

What does PowerUpSkool add to Skool?

A panel inside your own community with a daily action queue, retention and revenue radar, unanswered-thread detection, export and an AI copilot. It reads what is already visible in Skool; it never accesses anything you can't see.

See all features

Is it free? What does the Free plan include?

Yes, there's a permanent Free plan: it analyses the whole community, with export up to 50 rows, 1 community and 1 device. Pro adds depth, action plans, sequences and AI; Agency adds multi-community and API access.

Do I need to be a community admin?

For analytics and productivity, no. Moderation features, member data and export require an admin or moderator role in Skool.

Is it safe for my Skool account?

The extension works on the interface you already see in your browser, with automatic pauses on bulk actions, without injecting arbitrary HTML and without sending personal data to our servers.
